Brains and brews: A perfect combo at The Doers
On May 18, we wrapped up volume two of The Doers, a new monthly event series at HOWDO. We geared up for an evening of smart thinking and good drinking with HOWDO co-founder Erik Herskind and a 3 Nations Brewing Co. beer tasting.
Erik, a proponent for and passionate about big thinking, talked about just that – thinking. All it took was a quick chat with Erik to realize why how you think effects how (and what) you do. Sounds broad, yes, but he honed in on a couple key points that guests could take home and apply themselves.
Erik is the co-founder of HOWDO, but he’s also the co-founder and CEO of greenlight. A creative ad agency here in Dallas that lives next door to Dallas, greenlight is an expert in branding and platform building for clients including La Quinta Inns & Suites, Gold’s Gym, La Cantera Resort and Spa and, locally, Café Momentum.
“Creativity is not innovation, but you need them both” – Erik Herskind
A Dallasite since 1987 after graduating from SMU, Erik and his business partner Olivia Cole, created greenlight in 2006. 11 years later, greenlight prides itself on a unique, incomparable culture and a team that’s dedicated to strategic creativity, in every aspect of their work.
On to the beer – Managing Partner at The Old Monk, Blackfriar Pub, Idle Rich Pub and the Skellig David Allen led us through a beer tasting featuring Dallas’ own 3 Nations Brewing.
From beer basics to the almost-oversaturated local beer market in Dallas, David covered it all. Our sample spread included 3 Nations’ GPA, the new Mango Smash IPA and an even newer saison, Over the Top.

We’ll leave you with Erik’s “output hacks.” Take these and think deep, think creative and think smart. And go ahead, have a beer.
